Marie and Lio Limiñana are making something new with the echoes of France's artistic past. As The Limiñanas, the duo borrows bits and pieces of the sound-- which even works to conjure up the look-- of the New Wave and its pop cultural context. On "My Black Sabbath," a track from their upcoming album on Trouble In Mind, Marie's airy vocals add that retro element to the modern soundscape, which even features glimmers of Mediterranean melodies. The driving bassline also has a throwback vibe, but its place within the production and combination with the rest of the instrumentation gives it a twenty-first-century flavor. The Limiñanas know how to make established styles sound new again. Whatever their time may be-- either the '60s or this decade-- they're ahead of it.
